What is uridine monophosphate?Uridine is one of the 5 nucleosides that make up the structure of our RNA. Our RNA is used as a blueprint for making every protein in our body. Without uridine, our DNA would not be able to get the instructions out to the rest of the cell to use.Uridine is found throughout nature and is produced in small amounts in the human body. We mainly receive uridine from the RNA of the foods we consume. It's especially high in foods such as beets, broccoli, fish, mushrooms, and oats.Compared to dietary uridine, the monophosphate version can easily pass the blood-brain barrier to be used in the manufacture of new neuron synapses. It does this by stimulating the growth of small connecting structures on the neurons called neurites. These structures are made to facilitate the connection of other nerve cells which ultimately form complex synapses. Uridine is also able to promote the production of acetylcholine and dopamine.
