Description
Der Blaue Reiter (the blue horseman) was a small but influential group of like-minded artists in Germany which existed from about 1911 to 1914. The renewal movement originated in Munich, with the local artist Franz Marc and the Russian emigrant Wassily Kandinsky as two of the founding members. Both artists shared a love for the colour blue. For Kandinsky, blue was the colour of spirituality: the darker the blue, the more it awakens human desire for the eternal.
