Description
This Cape York Birdwing (Ornithoptera Priamus) has been hand set by our expert entomologists in our studio and mounted in a museum quality bell jar.
All of our display cases use museum grade 99% UV blocking conservation glass to preserve our specimens, and are supported by a bespoke wooden base.
The Cape York Birdwing is a widespread species of birdwing butterfly found in the central and south Maluku Islands, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and north-east Australia. This insect was first described over two hundred years ago and since that time the species has been broken up into up to 99 different subspecies which inhabit different geographic ranges. One of these subspecies, Ornithoptera priamus urvillianus, is bright blue! This rare insect is also in our collection - look out for the Priam’s Blue Birdwing!
All of our specimens are ethically sourced from conservation projects around the world and help to support local communities and protect natural habitats.
The picture shown is an example of the quality that you can expect to receive. Please be aware that, as these are natural products, they are subject to some variation. While no two insects are exactly alike, each of the specimens in our collection fall within the morphological perimeters for their species.
Please be advised that given the natural origin of our insects, they may exhibit size variations, resulting in potential differences in the size of the accompanying bell jar.
